about The lions

The Mission of the Naples Lions Club is to arrange for and fund free eye exams, glasses, eye surgery, and hearing aids for adults and children, and to provide scholarships for students in the health care field.  Our community service commitment is to provide vision and health screenings for adults and children and to screen preschool children to detect vision loss and Amblyopia. We have served Collier County families since November 17,1938. Lions International is the world’s largest service club, with clubs in 210 countries and 1.4 million members. Lions are “Knights of the Blind”.

How We Help

The Naples Lions Club has two major vision and hearing screening programs in Collier County, one for preschool children to detect Amblyopia (lazy eye), and one to screen needy adults for glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal disease. We provide community screenings in Immokalee and six other locations, screening 500+ people a year and provide free donated glasses. We also provide diabetes and blood pressure testing at screening events.

We have placed SPOT vision screeners in 19 pediatric office in Collier County free of charge to screen all preschool children and to eliminate amblyopia (lazy eye).

We developed a unique scholarship to send a young adult from an immigrant family to medical school free of charge; the scholarship recipient will then provide medical services for four years in an underserved community. (The Legacy of Care Scholarship). We also provide scholarships to six to eight nursing students at Lorenzo Walker Vocational Technical School and the Immokalee Technical College School of Nursing.

We provide disaster relief to the community all over Florida as needed.

We provide books for preschool children to read with their parents.

We donate trees for elementary school students to plant.

Collaboration and Awards

We collaborate with the Immokalee Technical College School of Nursing and are assisted by the Florida Lions Eye Clinic, Ladies of the DELTA GAMMA Society, the County Health Department, and Physicians from the County Medical Society who provide free tertiary care. We also collaborate with the Naples Children Education Foundation, the community foundation, the League club, the Lions District 35I Sight Foundation.

The Naples Lions Club was selected as the 2013 Health Care Hero in Innovation by the Naples Daily News for our screening and other programs.
