Naples Lions Club

Why I Became a Lion

By Dawn Hamilton Houser

When I was 3 years old I was supposed to be taking a nap, instead I was jumping on the bed.  I fell backward and hit my skull on the bedpost.  It crossed both my eyes and they had to operate because I started seeing double.

I graduated from HS in 1974, and was working as a waitress to raise money for college.  A local Lions club member came to the restaurant and spoke to the Manager, who was also my Father, but the Lion did not know this at the time.  He said the Lions club wanted to pay to fix my eyes.  My family knew no one in the Lions club.  The Lions club was doing this out of the goodness of their hearts.

It  changed my entire life.  As I write this tears are streaming down my face.  This was the reason I wanted to join the Naples Lions club when my work took me to the Naples area.  I will be forever grateful.
